Forest School is an opportunity for your child to experience nature and the outdoor environment in a safe, secure and hands on way. The Forest School leader provides opportunities for child-led learning, where the children are encouraged to become independent, explore and attempt new tasks. Each session is designed to accommodate different learning styles.
Forest School at Manor Oak takes place in a designated area of the school grounds, providing a safe and secure space for an outdoor learning environment.
Forest school helps to develop:
- Confidence and self esteem
- Communication and social skills
- Creativity and imagination
- Team skills
- Greater understanding and awareness of the natural environment
- The ability to recognise and manage risk
- Healthier lifestyles
- Physical strength, balance and co-ordination
The children are outside at the Forest School site for an hour every session. Upon arriving , the children sit at 'Base Camp'. Here, the activities and session are explained and the children are able to choose their own activities. The session ends back at 'Base Camp' where the children reflect on their own learning.
Our trained Forest School leaders are Mrs Smith and Mrs Shambrook. They are also both fully trained in first aid. At the beginning of each session, the children take responsibility for their own safety by identifying our Forest School rules for that day.
Some of the activities that children are involved in are:making dens or shelters
Forest School takes place in all weathers so children will require suitable clothing. On Forest School days, your child will need to have:
*A pair of wellies or suitable footwear.
*A pair of warm socks.
*An old long sleeved top
*A waterproof Jacket
*(If warm) A peaked cap or sunhat
*(If cold) Hat, gloves and scarf if necessary.
Please do NOT send in any clothes that you would not like your child to get dirty or spoilt, we encourage the children to be very hands on and this can include digging in mud, playing in snow and splashing in muddy puddles!!
We want them to have a fun learning experience!
